Many companies in the automotive industry in South Africa have engaged in the subject of HIV/AIDS. The unique factor about the FMCSA Wellness Programme is that takes a special interest in empowering the employees with knowing their status and the constant reminder for them to continually check their HIV status. The programme has been further developed to touch the community through the Ford Care Centre. This programme does not only benefit Ford employees but has also touched the surrounding community.
The initiatives and creativity of the project have been developed through the introduction of the quarterly AIDS days at both plants. Incentives such as giving employees T-Shirts inscribed "I tested for HIV, Have You?" after testing have made the project more exciting. The poster competition that was conducted also generated a lot of interest in the project amongst employees.
All these innovation have seen the project grow from strength to strength making the subject of HIV easier to discuss than it was before. People are now more open to discussion on the subject than they were in previous times. This is why they are now able to go and test and know their status. The project has therefore started to create a platform for discussion around the subject of HIV/AIDS.
