Sustainable Mobility

Ford Motor Company launched a pilot program this year in Cape Town to develop networks of transportation alternatives for people increasingly facing mobility constraints in major urban population centers. The pilots and Ford’s interest in providing mobility to urban dwellers are consistent with Ford’s ongoing focus on achieving sustainability that is environmental, economic and social in the near-term, mid-term and long-term. Through logistical and IT support planning, Ford is establishing networks of multiple modes of transportation that commuters will be able to access via centralized hub stations or handheld devices, providing current information departure times and travel schedules.

Modes of transportation will include buses, trains, streetcars, clean fuel taxis, car share vehicles, bike share bicycles, mopeds); services (café, news stands, wireless internet access, maps, guides) and real-time information locations and schedules for mobility options.
