What is the wear check process?

Wear Check oil testing is a process implemented by Ford to Determine a vehicle Warranty status, post a vehicle being late for or missing a scheduled service by mileage or time. Ford Protect Service Plans will provide for late servicing however the Ford Warranty may be affected depending on the outcome of the Wear Check test.

Should a vehicle miss or arrive late for a scheduled service a Wear Check test can be conducted to determine the Warranty status, once a test has been conducted the following applies:

  • If the oil test is clear the warranty will remain unaffected and Warranty work can continue as normal.
  • If the oil test indicates component wear: The vehicles engine and related components Warranty will be affected and any failures relating to these components will not be covered by the Warranty and the repair costs will be for the customer’s account. Should these components be replaced they will be covered for the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW) or Service Part Warranty (SPW) whichever is longer.
  • The warranty coverage for components that are not service related in terms of the schedule service requirements, beyond the engine and transmission as applicable, are unaffected and will continue to have coverage.

NOTE: The cost to the customer +/- R500 for the Wear Check oil testing.

In cases where a Wear Check test has not been conducted at the late service or any following services and there is a failure to the engine or related components, these repairs will not be covered by Warranty.
