Get familiar with the infotainment system and wireless phone connection. Particularly, you need to understand the function of the 4 drive modes and know how to use the steering assist features such as Electronic Handbrake, Auto Hold, and Auto Start/Stop.

choose the right drive

Choose the right drive mode

Every version of Ford Territory is equipped with 4 drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain. The engine and 7-speed gearbox are custom installed to operate according to different drive modes. The driver can choose between different drive modes illustrated on the central touch screen. The default drive mode when the car starts is Normal.

  • Eco: The most economical drive mode with all operating parameters, from the engine to entertainment functions and air conditioning, are readjusted to optimize power. The accelerator pedal delay is longer than usual. This is the drive mode that should be used for long and stable highway trips.
  • Normal: A mode for everyday driving, which is the default mode after each on/off cycle. It is the perfect balance of fun, comfort, and convenience, and should be used every day in urban areas.
  • Sport: For sport driving on normal roads. This mode enhances accelerator response, delivering a more dynamic and active transmission sound and driving feel, along with a sportier gear-shifting experience.
  • Mountain: For driving on rough terrain. The Terrain (Mountain) mode optimizes accelerator response to give you better control of the vehicle when crossing off-road obstacles. The traction and balance control settings are optimized. Use Terrain (Mountain) mode when driving through sand, loose gravel, mud, or mixed terrain.

The Ford Territory is equipped with an electronic gear lever (rotary knob) combined with an electronic handbrake. With the electric gear shift, you don't need to shift to P gear when stopping the vehicle. Ford Territory will automatically shift to P (Parking mode) and activate the electronic handbrake, which will also automatically be activated to assist you in driving situations such as stopping and departing on a slope or driving without fastening the driver's seatbelt.

auto hold feature

Auto Hold feature

Auto Hold is a function that helps hold the brake when the driver stops the vehicle without requiring the driver to hit the brake or pull the handbrake. When resuming driving, the driver only needs to lightly tap the accelerator, Auto Hold will automatically be turned off and the car will start moving normally. Turn on Auto Hold with the Circle A button next to the electronic handbrake button.

Auto Stop - Smart start (Auto Start/Stop)

Auto Start/Stop is a technology that helps the Ford Territory automatically turn off the engine while waiting for a red light or traffic jam. When starting again, you just need to hit the accelerator and the engine will restart gently and smoothly. You can temporarily cancel the Auto Start/Stop feature by the Circle A OFF icon button next to the bottom of the electronic handbrake button.

Notes when driving in rainy or foggy conditions

The Ford Territory is equipped with many features to help you drive safely in all weather conditions. However, driving in bad weather such as rain or fog is especially dangerous, which requires basic skills to drive safely.

Reduce speed and increase safe following distance

Rainy and foggy weather reduces visibility and tyre traction. Driving at a reasonable speed and increasing the following distance are the top cautionary measures. When the road is wet and slippery, it's important to drive more slowly and keep a longer following distance than usual from the vehicle in front to accommodate for longer braking distances.

  • Keep to your lane, avoid too much steering.
  • Give an earlier light signal and turn more slowly when you do need to change lanes.
  • Do not turn on the high beam headlights, use only low beam or fog lights (yellow light)
  • Park your vehicle on the correct side of the road if the rain is so heavy that you cannot have sufficient visibility.

Windshields and Wipers must be in good working condition

Heavy rain significantly reduces visibility, so make sure the windshield is clean and the wipers are in good condition. The New Ford Territory is equipped with rain sensing wipers2, which adjust the wiping speed according to actual conditions. On the control cluster behind the steering wheel, you can adjust the sensitivity of the wiper sensor to adjust the wiping speed. To clean the windshield, you can use the windshield washer spray function, or you can clean the windshield with a towel before driving.

Handling fogging on car windows

Rainy, humid, or foggy weather can cause the front and rear windshields to blur and reduce visibility. Use the multi-level glass drying feature on the central control panel of the AC system to quickly clean the glass. If the door glasses are foggy, you can use the automatic air conditioning function (Auto) or open the window slightly and switch to outside air intake mode for the AC.
